CHARTER

Centralisation and multi-disciplinarity

Designed as a cultural exchange and referral vehicle, the ch-arts site has the mission to centralise and reference various types of resources connected with the visual arts, performing arts, design, graphic arts and architecture.

Trilingual presentation and communication

ch-arts provides overviews of the current state of the contemporary arts in Switzerland, by means of several supplementary sections.

ch-arts introduces artists who are active and recognised on the contemporary Swiss scene, and in parallel provides cultural institutions with a dynamic, trilingual (French, German and English) communication structure to inform various audiences about their activities.

Evolutionary nature of the site

The content presented on ch-arts is a collection of information which is continuously expanding to follow the evolution of their respective domains. The flexible structure of the site makes it possible, at any time, to accommodate new developments in order to complete and enhance this information.

Selectivity and coherence

ch-arts does not claim to provide a complete panorama of all artistic output, but is rather a discerning and coherent set of information. Therefore, the content is chosen according to the criteria selected by the editors and the Steering Committee.

The selection of articles is governed by three criteria:

Geographical:ch-arts presents artists and institutions established in Switzerland, or international institutions featuring Swiss artists.

Time:The artists and works presented on ch-arts are contemporary - the site is mainly concerned with creation from the eighties to the present day.

Recognition:The artists and institutions mentioned on ch-arts are active in at least one of the domains involved (visual arts, performing arts, design, graphic arts, architecture) and demonstrate a contemporary approach in their own disciplines. They have achieved recognition at regional, national or international level via bona fide channels.

Content Management

ch-arts takes care of authoring the content of the internet site or the publishing of information supplied by persons or institutions, while reserving the right to make changes to the submitted text, in agreement with those concerned.

ORGANISATION: EDITORS AND STEERING COMMITTEE

ch-arts is directed by two editors. A Steering Committee made up of specialists in the field of contemporary art makes recommendations, checks and validates the selection of artists and institutions. SITE ACCESS AND SUBSCRIPTION TO THE NEWSLETTER

The information provided on ch-arts is usually accessible in three languages: French, German and English. Access to all the sections and subscription to the newsletter are free to all users.

Subscribers to the newsletter are guaranteed strict confidentiality. ch-arts ensures that subscribers addresses are not communicated to third parties. Subscribers can cancel their subscription at any time.

SECTIONS AND CONTENT OF THE SITE

The agenda lists the exhibitions, shows, events, etc.; it is a collection of diverse views on Swiss contemporary arts, rather than a comprehensive calendar.

Each newsletter introduces an exhibition, a show, an event, etc. The information is provided by an institution and distributed by ch-arts to all its subscribers.

The portraits relate to persons, institutions, associations or media in the various areas of the contemporary arts scene. For each portrait, in addition to the presentation text, series of photographs can be viewed as slide shows.
From Spring 2006

Articles and contributions enable access to various articles and reviews. Essentially a press review, this section is also open to any specialist in contemporary arts. However, we will only publish articles whose subject and presentation fit into the area defined by ch-arts.
From Spring 2006

The press zone enables journalists to identify themselves and access - using their own password - files and press releases as well as high-definition images, which can easily be downloaded. ch-arts reserves the right to verify that the requestor contributes to one or several medias, in order to guarantee that the contents of this section are only consulted and/or downloaded by representatives of the media.

DISTRIBUTION AND ANNOUNCEMENT SERVICES: NEWSLETTERS AND PRESS INFORMATION

ch-arts Newsletter: an electronic service for the distribution of announcements or information

Objectives:
Announce the activities of institutions and participants specialised in the contemporary arts
Enhance the related information and distribute it in a customised way to interested parties
Reinforce the communication initiatives organised by the institutions by performing a targeted and multilingual distribution

This service enables the distribution of information related to exhibitions, shows, guided tours, films, new publications, conferences, etc., to the growing list of ch-arts subscribers.

Subscribers receive the newsletter without charge - whether professionals in the various fields of contemporary arts, critics, journalists, students in universities or colleges of art and design, contemporary art lovers and the general public.

The digital distribution system has been put together by internet professionals; it ensures that each e-mail and its contents can be read on any browser.

The newsletters are also posted on the ch-arts website, where they will be available after they have been distributed. Additionnally, for each newsletter a specific entry is created in the ch-arts agenda.

Contents of each newsletter and publishing procedure

The e-mail announcement is made up of:

  • a text of approximately 500 words in French, German and English (or at least in one of these three languages)
  • an image and a logo in .jpg or .gif format
  • mention of the dates of the event
  • details of the issuing institution, including its e-mail address

These details are supplied directly by the institution concerned. We process them and take care of the page make-up. Once the newsletter is made up, a proof is sent to the issuing institution for approval of the content.

ch-arts reserves the right not to distribute information which are commercial in nature or those which do not comply with the conditions defined in this charter. The goal of these restrictions is to ensure the distribution of selective and coherent information.

Press Zone: a service dedicated to the distribution of press releases or press kits

ch-arts offers cultural institutions the possibility to include information destined for the media (press releases or kits) in several languages, as well as high definition images, in the Press Zone. This is accompanied by a personalised e-mail to selected journalists.

This service allows:

  • Limitation of the production costs
  • Distribution of information to specialised journalists through use of a professional database (specialised magazines, mainstream and lifestyle press, Swiss and international medias)
  • Simplification of the press review process and analysis of the impact by supplying a list of journalists from different media having downloaded the text and/or the images.
