JUNE BEGINS MAY 29
PROLONGATION through October 11th, 2008 - LAST DAYS!!!
The inaugural exhibition of the new gallery, located in the heart of Basel, presents works by 11 international artists born between 1963 to 1984 from Switzerland, Iran, UK, and Austria.
Exhibiting and promoting artists of her generation is the credo of the 30-year-old Iranian-Swiss gallerist Laleh Bazargan Harandi, who recently settled in the home city of Art Basel. In terms of both content and geography, the spectrum of the gallery’s program is exceedingly broad, and Laleh June consciously seeks out artists whose forms are highly varied and transcend geographic boundaries.
Equally broad is the palette of presented techniques, ranging from painting and drawing, to photographs, video and installation, and new media.
Of the 11 artists in the current exhibition, seven will be present at the opening: Melika Shafahi and Anoush Abrar, both born in Tehran; Pascal Robert, Philippe Zumstein, and Crystel Ceresa, all three live and work in Geneva; Marc Rembold, who lives and works in Basel; and Patrick Tschudi, born in Lima lives and works in Geneva since 2001.
A number of the artists being presented have already had successful exhibitions in various museums; among others are: Musée d’art moderne et contemporaine Genève (MAMCO) (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Geneva), the Kunsthalle St. Gallen, Österreichisches Museum für angewandte Kunst (MAK) (The Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art) in Vienna and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Marc Rembold will have an opening exhibition in Seoul in mid-September 2008, while Sissi Farassat is preparing an exhibition for the Kunsthalle Krems.
With her concept, Laleh Bazargan Harandi is seeking to "stir things up the art world". She does not think in categories such as "young" or "established"; rather, she trusts in the artist’s format and brings the quality of the work itself to the fore. The gallerist is constantly searching for unique works that transcend time, a quest that is supported and furthered by her far-ranging international network and her intuitive understanding of the most varied forms of art.
In which direction is the gallery developing? The answer can be found in a brief look at the next exhibition at Laleh June in October 2008, which will present Philippe Zumstein. Ms. Bazargan Harandi’s interest in Zumstein’s work focuses primarily on the artist’s position between painting and sculpture, which he inhabits with his thermoforming objects, his transformation of materials, and his broken, brilliant and flat, smooth surfaces.
