RealRoom(s), fabric | ch 2005

Throughout spring 2005, fabric | ch exposes its projects of architecture (RealRoom(s), _knowscape mobile, electroscape 004...) in France, in Italy, in Belgium and in the United States, before returning to Switzerland at the beginning of the summer with MIX-m.org at the Center of Contemporary art of Geneva, to present an experimental space of exhibition in which the curator Simon Lamunière invited 5 contemporary artists.
Through these projects, fabric | ch questions the relationship we maintain with our habitat, our workspace, our livable environment, inviting us to evolve in a "real" architecture which combines physical and digital spaces, "hard" and "soft" spaces.
If initially fabric | ch’s practice and research were primarily directed towards the exploration of the electronic territories (networks, data environments, Web) as towards generated architectures, if this practice led to make tangible these non material territories and thus sought to mix the universe of bit with that of atom, it tends today more to physicality: it includes concepts such as temporality and time zones, climate and air-conditioning, terrestrial rotation and illumination.
Through these various approaches and phases of work, a topic remains however central: information, within the meaning of information sciences, in their relations with sciences of energy and the Utopias of cybernetics. In this contemporary space where almost everything, from text to genome, from image to energy, can be described as code and algorithm, the concept of information becomes ambient. The environment and its various states consequently become variable, transportable, transmissible, global or multipliable.
Thus, the work of fabric | ch extends today on a widened space spectrum (material – non material, visible – invisible, habitable – uninhabitable, located – distributed, unique – ubique) and seeks to formulate new possibilities of existence of the architectural object.
